MOST SUCCESFUL MUSIC GROUP FROM WAY BACK

MOST SUCCESSFUL MUSIC GROUPS FROM WAY BACK

The effective synergy between different individuals but having shared interests is one of the many things the Nigerian music industry has to be thankful for. The input of music groups however have contributed in no small way to the successes we celebrate as a people. This post has examined 5 of such, successful in their own reigns and dearly missed from their time way back.

STYL-PLUS

The trio of Styl-plus; Tunde, Shifi and Zeal were dubbed Africa’s Boys II Men in the early millennial era. The R&B soul group served us a lot of deep songs that this industry will forever cherish. After 3 albums and several hit singles, the industry will certainly not forget Styl-Plus in a hurry, especially for the fact that their music had formed the bedrock of many relationships that blossomed into happily ever afters.

PLANTASHUN BOIZ

Tuface, Faze and Blackface had perhaps the most effective musical synergy, which was what birthed arguably the best and highly revered music group of the 90s. Formed during their college days at Enugu, the Plantashun Boiz were a pop/R&B singing trio with credit for a variety of classic love music hits including You & I, Something About You, and Say You Believe Me. They are still talked about till date.

MO’HITS

This is one music group that broke the hearts of music fans nationwide. Mo’hits was the definition an all-star music group. The Curriculum Vitae album is one of the best compilation albums this industry has had. Don Jazzy, D’Banj, Wande Coal, Dr Sid were all our favorites, while Kayswitch and D’Prince had potentials that made us believe in the future of the Nigerian music industry.

REMEDIES

From the late 90s to 2000, the group, ‘Redemies’ comprising of Tony Tetuila, Eedris Abdulkareem & Eddy Remedy; was prominent for the release of hit singles including Omode Meta, Shakomo and several other huge songs of that era. With the help of Kennis Music, the group became a dominant force until a crack led to the sad end of such an amazing group.

DANFO DRIVERS

Mad Melon and Mountain Black aka Danfo Drivers belong to the category of ace musicians. The then youngsters from the ghetto hood of Ajegunle rose to become patriots of the Galala music brand after the era of Daddy Showkey and Baby Fryo. Although they phased out following the decision to advance their education which later led to a protracted break which they still haven’t recovered from, the Danfo Drivers still maintain national consciousness with viral hits, Danfo Driver and Kponlogo.
Are there any music groups we missed out? Please comment in the section below.
