Tinubu Orders Immediate Rescue of Remaining 115 Kidnapped Schoolchildren, Demands Accountability from Security Chiefs

Latest News in Nigeria (Dec. 9, 2025)

The national conversation remains dominated by the ongoing security crisis, particularly the mass abduction of students and staff from a Catholic school in Niger State. While the government secured the release of 100 students and staff members in the past week, attention has now shifted to the imperative to rescue the remaining 115 victims.

In a recent directive, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu reportedly gave a firm mandate to security chiefs to intensify efforts and ensure the immediate, safe return of those still in captivity. The President emphasized that while the release of the first group was commendable, the mission is not complete until every single victim is home.

Key Highlights of the Directive:

  • Zero Tolerance: The President reiterated a zero-tolerance stance on mass abductions and charged security forces to dismantle the networks responsible for these acts of terror.
  • Accountability: Reports indicate a renewed focus on holding commanders accountable for failures in proactive intelligence and response time.
  • Regional Collaboration: The directive underscores the need for effective synergy between military, police, and intelligence agencies, especially in joint operations across state borders.

The call comes as other security challenges persist, including communal violence in parts of Adamawa and ongoing concerns about airspace violations following an emergency military aircraft landing in neighboring Burkina Faso. The nation remains focused on the security forces’ ability to quickly execute this crucial presidential order.
